Größen wie Bobby Bird, Clyde Stubbelfield, Gwen McCrae kommen genauso zu Wort, wie die Hip Hopper von Phyrcade in London. Sie alle würdigen den King of Soul, Mr. James Brown, der schon zu Lebzeiten eine Legende war. Er persönlich gibt dem Zuschauer in Antwerpen, einen Einblick in die Welt des Funk and Souls von seinen Anfängen in den 60igern der letzten Jahrhunderts. Wie er mit Hilfe von Mozart und Bach den Funk entwickelt hat. Von den Höhen und Tiefen der Afroamerikaner, deren Verbitterung sich in den Rassenunruhen entlud. Er selbst, der es vom Straßenboxer zum Millionär geschafft hatte, musste unter den Diskriminierungen leiden. Doch seine Musik hat letztendlich die Gräben des Rassenhasses mit überwunden und somit wurde er zu einem Botschafter der Brüderlichkeit. In den Herzen der Menschen ist Soul and Funk geschrieben worden und wird heute noch auf der ganzen Welt mit Begeisterung gefeiert; denn diesem Rhythmus kann sich niemand entziehen.

Mit Konzertauftritten, Zeitdokumenten und sehr persönlichen Interviews ist den Machern eine fesselnde Chronik über ein Stück Musikgeschichte gelungen.

Soulpower is more than a documentary, it is a legacy. The film makers accompanied the stars of Funk and Soul for more than 4 years. What began as a minor interview in Hannover developed into one of the most intimate stories of the Funk and Soul era. Stars such Bobby Bird, Clyde Stubbelfield and Gwen McCrae have their say, as well as Pharcyde from the Hip Hoppers in London. They all recognize the greatness of Mr James Brown, the Kind of Soul, who was a legend in his own lifetime. In Antwerp he personally gives the audience an insight into the beginnings of the world of Funk and Soul during the 60s of the last century. How he, with the help of Mozart and Bach, developed Funk.
